My review:

     This is a wonderful contemporary romance!

     I love the cast of characters in this book. They have such a wide variety of personalities that it is amusing to see how they interact with each other. It is fascinating to see how many of them have two completely different sides. One that is evident to others and the other that we only see in their private thoughts.

     There are a couple of things that I picked up on that left me really thinking about my own life. It is much easier to see the faults of others than it is to see our own short comings. Also we are much quicker to remember things that others do that hurt us than things that we do and say that hurt them.

     I definitely love the focus on second chances that comes through this story. We all have times that we desperately need one.

     I am giving this fantastic story a rating of 5 stars. I highly recommend it. I do consider this to be part of a true series. You should read book one before this one. My review:

     This is an incredible look at bonds between sisters.

     The characters in this book are fantastic. They are all incredibly well developed and as varied as you will find in any group of people that you find in your own life. A number of the residents on Three Sisters Island when the Grayson family arrive have very differing quirks that kept me smiling at their antics.

     As the story progresses we quickly find that the three sisters are so set in their own way of living that they each believe that they have all the answers as to how things should be handled. This naturally has created huge rifts between them. I thoroughly enjoyed following their interactions and seeing how they grew and learned to build bridges back together.

     At the same time all of the Graysons are having to figure out how to be accepted by the islanders who don’t like outsiders. The problems that they encounter added another layer of interest for me.

     I love this book and have to give it a rating of 5 stars. I am highly recommending it. I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of this series when they come out.

My Review

This is an insightful look at the road to redemption!

I’m talking about redemption in the eyes of man not God. The characters are incredibly well developed. Luke has caused a lot of people a lot of heartache and very deep wounds. They are just as varied as the characters themselves. 

I was completely captivated by the journey that Luke had to go on to bring healing to himself and others. He is helped along the way by two very wise and Godly men. I love the fact that everything is done with an attitude of prayer and seeking God. We can all learn an awful lot about this from this wonderful book.

My Review

An incredible historical Amish fiction book!

In my mind this is part of a “true” series. You need to read these books in order to get the most enjoyment out of them.

I love both Tessa Bauer and Betsy Zook. These young women are trying to figure out life when tragedy strikes and what they knew was turned upside down. I love the strong godly character that both of their fathers have displayed before them. Teaching them to hold on to the fact that God is with them no matter what happens.

All of the characters are amazingly well developed. There are so many differing personalities it was great to see how they interacted with each other. I loved seeing how those that were in the previous books have matured.

I was fascinated by the detailed descriptions given of some of the everyday aspects of life for these people. One that comes to mind is the way that metal rims were put on the wooden wagon wheels. I was also very interested in the description of training horses to pull wagons. I really enjoyed all of the information about the designing of the Conestoga wagon.

I was heartbroken over what happened to Betsy and her family. The details of how the Indians treated her and the other captives was terrifying. I really did like the fact that she kept what she had been taught by her mother and father close to her heart.

I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful book. It is getting a 5-star rating from me. I highly recommend this entire series.

The Three Sisters’ Garden: Corn, Squash & Beans! 

 Corn was a new food to the immigrants to the New World, introduced to them by Native Americans. Soon, it became an essential part of their daily diet, in one form or another. Growing it brought yet another new discovery: companion planting in the form of the Three Sisters’ Garden.
According to Iroquois legend, corn, squash and beans were three inseparable sisters who only grew and thrived together. 18th century Native Americans wouldn’t have understood the science behind why companion planting worked, but they knew it did. Beans, like all legumes, have bacteria living on their roots that help them absorb nitrogen from the air and convert it to a form that plants can use. Corn, which requires a lot of nitrogen to grow, benefits from the legumes and provides a pole support for the beans to climb. Low growing squash leaves shade the soil and prevent weed growth. Their sharp and prickly leaves deter pests. This tradition, of planting corn, beans and squash in the same mounds, became a sustainable system to provide long-term soil fertility among Native American tribes that farmed. 

 The wisdom of planting Three Sisters’ Garden was adopted by the immigrants, including our own Betsy Zook from The Return. Betsy learned of the technique while a captive among a tribe of Indians and later, after she had been returned to the Amish, shared her knowledge with Anna and Bairn.
